Kallattikode: A student who came to visit the Meen Vallam waterfall area drowned in the current.
Ahmed Isa (18), son of Safalil Zubairin, a native of Chandranagar, Palakkad, died. The incident took place in the dark hole of Tuppanad river, just below Meen Vallam on Friday at 5 pm.
The local people found the body under the bathing area around 10 pm on Friday night. He had come to visit Meen Vallam with his friends.
When the friend who was bathing in the river went missing, the friends informed the people in the area. Then The local residents, the fire rescue team of Kongad Nilayam and the Kalladikode police reached the spot and searched the dark part of the Thuppa Nadu river for a long time, but they were planning to stop the work with difficulty. The flow in the river was high. There are roots growing on the rocks in the river part which has a rock wall and a small tunnel. The indication that this may have increased the momentum of the accident. The body was shifted to Palakkad district hospital after police action. It will be handed over to relatives after postmortem on Saturday morning.
