Palakad: Police have arrested a man in the case of breaking into the house of Kongad Pering and stealing gold ornaments and money.
Muhammad Abdul Latif (35), a native of Malappuram Vattallur Kurua, was arrested at his house in Puthith.
The theft took place at the house of Sreedharan Nair and his wife, a resident of Peringode. The incident took place between 2 pm on August 15 and 8 am on August 17, 2026. The theft took place when Sreedharan Nair and his wife locked their house.
The thieves entered the house by breaking the lock on the front door. 3 Pawan gold jewelery and Rs 1,62,000 kept in a bag in the closet of the room were stolen. One of the CCTV cameras installed in the house was found covered with a cloth and the hard disk of the camera was removed.
The accused was arrested during the investigation conducted by the police focusing on CCTV footage and other scientific evidence. The police are investigating whether there are more suspects involved in the theft. The police informed that Abdul Latif is accused in 30 theft cases in different districts.
Kongad Police Inspector Rajesh M.B., GSI Maraya Rajanarayanan, Vineeth and police officers Mohammad Rafi, Krishnadas, Praveen and Reshma conducted an investigation and arrested the accused.
