PALAKKAD: Stalled paddy procurement in the district will resume by coming Monday, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique has announced. The minister stated that a annual calendar will be formulated to make paddy procurement more efficient across the state, and urgent measures will be taken to expedite the process. He was interacting with paddy farmers at the Ashrayam College of Arts and Science, Kollengode.
To address the inadequacy of procurement centers, Supplyco and the Agriculture Department will jointly implement a special scheme. Measures are underway to construct the maximum possible number of warehouses. To provide relief to farmers, a new processing unit will commence operations by coming January, February, and March, the minister added.
Nenmara MLA K. Preman presided over the function. Kollengode Block Panchayat President Sobhana Jayaprakash, Kollengode Grama Panchayat President Adv. Aswathy Das, Joint Padasekhara Samithi Secretary Anil Babu, along with other public representatives and farmers, participated in the event.
