The person who was the face of Palakkad and especially Chittoor in the fields of art and culture has passed away.
One of the early leaders of the Film Society movement in Kerala and Director of Janashakti Films Adv. P. Jayapala Menon. Born in Chittoor, he was active in public works even during his law studies.
Jayapala Menon, who worked as the managing director of Janashakti Films, started in 1977, contributed greatly to the parallel cinema movement in Kerala. Janashakti Films played an important role in bringing the films of famous people like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal and Girish Kasaravalli to Kerala and screening them through film societies.
He also participated in the production of films including‘Garshom’.
He was active in various cultural activities centered around Palakkad and worked with organizations like Palakkad Kathakali Trust, Palakkad Chitrakala Trust, Palakkad Fine Arts Society, Swaralaya. He was the Chairman of Panchajanyam Film Festival since its inception. Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangh, Desabhimani Study Circle, Thekegram Tunchan Memorial Trust, Margadeepti Charitable Trust working for the welfare of the mentally ill and worked as an active leader of many cultural organizations and voluntary organizations.
Retired from the practice of law in 2003 after practicing as a lawyer for 42 years.
