PALAKKAD: Senior advocate Adv. P.B. Menon, a guiding light for generations in Palakkad's legal fraternity, is celebrating his 100th birthday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also extended his warm greetings to him. With a century of rich life experience and a legal career spanning over seven decades, Adv. P.B. Menon’s life stands as a testament to dedication, hard work, and continuous learning. The Palakkad native also holds the Guinness World Record as the world's longest-practicing lawyer.

Born as Pachuveetil Balasubramanya Menon on October 15, 1926, in Pallassana, Palakkad district, he was the son of Koman Nair and Kalyani Kuttiyamma. He completed his primary education at the Palakkad Municipal (PMG) High School. Later, he studied at the Government Victoria College, graduating in 1947, before earning his law degree from the Madras Law College.
The Beginning of a Legal Journey

Adv. P.B. Menon commenced his legal practice in Palakkad on July 18, 1950. Initially handling criminal cases, he later shifted his focus to civil litigation. This transition was prompted by a senior judge who, after watching him argue a criminal case at the Sub-Court in Kochi, suggested that civil law suited his aptitude better. Exceling subsequently in civil cases, he earned widespread recognition as an attorney who approached every single case with equal importance and dedication.
Guinness World Record Achievement
On September 11, 2023, Adv. P.B. Menon’s name was officially entered into the Guinness World Records for practicing as a lawyer for 73 years and 60 days. He secured the record for the longest career as a male lawyer. His continuous pursuit of legal knowledge and vast experience remain the defining hallmarks of his professional style.

In his message, the Prime Minister noted that Menon’s service in ensuring justice for the common man is deeply commendable, and that continuing his legal practice even at the age of 100 stands as shining proof of his professional commitment and work ethic.
