Palakkad: A cow died after being struck by a strong lightning in Kutanat district. Vasu's cow died in Punja, a dairy farmer of Nagalassery North Kotachira.

The accident occurred during a thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain that fell around 3:30 pm today. At around 5:30 in the evening, after the rain subsided, when Vasu went to bring back the cow that had been left in the field for feed, Vasu saw the lightning struck cow lying in the field.

Vasu belongs to an ordinary family that makes a living by rearing cows. The death of a cow, which is one of the family's only sources of income, has come as a huge blow to the farmer.

Natives and representatives on the spot

Sambhavamarinj Nagalassery Panchayat Vice President K.T. Mohandas visited the spot and assessed the situation. The matter has been brought to the attention of the officials of the Animal Welfare Department, requesting that appropriate compensation be provided. Locals also demanded that the government should provide immediate compensation to the distressed farmer.
