Panniangara Toll Plaza was besieged under the leadership of Congress workers.

The sanction was imposed against the permanent closure of the national highway in the name of road maintenance but toll collection. 

The protestors demanded that toll should not be collected for traffic on this route till the repair work is completed.

Palayam Pradeep, who led the strike, alleged that the CPM MP, MLA and Union Minister Suresh Gopi are colluding with the contractors and looting the people without providing any facilities at the toll plaza. 

 Also protested against not allowing free travel to locals. The road has been closed about 128 times so far due to maintenance on the Vadakancherry flyover on the national highway. At this time, the toll plaza authorities are diverting the traffic through the service roads. This usually results in heavy traffic congestion on the busy route. This is also causing problems for the solar life of local residents. It was in this situation that the blockade of the toll plaza took place with the demand that the toll collection would not be allowed until the road work was completed. The protesters were stopped by the police. 

During the discussion with the toll plaza authorities, differences of opinion arose, but after the discussion with the higher officials, the strike was temporarily called off. The toll plaza authorities assured the protesters that the road work would be completed soon.
