Relatives of the accused in the murder of James Rajkumar, which took place in Kozhinjampara recently, have raised suspicions against the police. They allege that the police are attempting to conceal facts and save themselves. According to them, taking three completely innocent farmers into custody and naming them as accused is part of this cover-up. These allegations were raised during a press meet held at the Palakkad Press Club by Stephy, wife of accused Felix who is currently in police custody; Praveen, brother of another accused, Benjamin; along with advocates Suhail and Sunil.

On the night of the incident on November 1, the police who arrived at the spot did not take Praveen—who was bleeding from hack wounds—to the hospital. Instead, they caught James Rajkumar, who carried out the attack, and bundled him into the police jeep. At that time, James walked into the jeep without any visible distress. Videos of this exist. The footage also shows a policeman thrashing James as he walks into the vehicle. The police took the accused to a hospital located just six kilometers away from the scene after a delay of 50 minutes. The police are not clarifying why there was such a delay.
Meanwhile, three local farmers had come forward to take hacked Praveen to the hospital at the request of his wife. Video footage shows Praveen's wife telling this to the police as well. However, when these farmers went to the police station to explain the situation, the police made them accused in the case. The relatives questioned the credibility of using the statements of the deceased James's children to frame these farmers.
Furthermore, the police officially recorded that they came to know about the matter and registered the FIR only the next day afternoon, after the death of James Rajkumar. The delay in taking James to the hospital and the police's attempt to hide this matter cast serious doubts on them. They also point to the video footage of the police assaulting James in this context.
They are demanding an independent probe and the arrest of the real culprits. Pointing these out, they announced that a public meeting would be organized near the Kozhinjampara bus stand on Monday.
