PALAKKAD: What blossomed from a 13-year-old boy's goodness is not just a gold medal, but someone else's dream of having a home of their own. Some gifts may have a price tag, but the transformations they create in a person's life are priceless. When this eighth-grader unlaced spike shoes worth over ten thousand rupees from his own feet and handed them to someone else, he probably never imagined it would make such a monumental difference in another life. Today, however, an eighth-grade boy named Atuljith is winning the hearts of Kerala's sports fraternity.

Atuljith is a student of RPM Higher Secondary School, Panangattiri, near Palakkad. When G. Akshaya, a plus-two student at the same school, won gold in the 3,000-meter event at the recent State School Athletics Meet, Atul's care and thoughtfulness played a part in that achievement. The spikes on Akshaya's feet were not ones she had bought herself; Atuljith had lent his own spikes to her.

On the Track of Goodness

Atul has known Akshaya since she began training at the school ground. Whenever Akshaya needed spikes for her running practice, he never hesitated to lend her his own shoes. That kindness continued at the State Athletics Meet as well. Akshaya’s 3,000-meter race was scheduled first in the athletic meet. For that, Atul gave her his spikes. Akshaya ran and won gold. Immediately afterward, Atul retrieved the same spikes and stepped onto the track for his own 400-meter event.

When lending shoes worth approximately Rs. 15,000 to someone else, this young lad wasn't thinking about their monetary value. His senior schoolmate needed to run. She needed to perform her best. That was all he wanted. Once Akshaya's difficult life circumstances and her dream of owning a piece of land and a house became public, helping hands began to reach out. Social worker Mukesh Jain, who came forward to buy 3.5 cents of land for Akshaya, paid the advance amount for the property and handed over the documents.

A Young Boy Sets an Example

Atul's father, Peringottukavu Suresh, is a percussion artist, and his mother works as a nurse. Growing up in this family, Atul has learned at a very young age to understand the needs of others and share what he has. While Akshaya wore gold around her neck, it is the goodness in Atul's heart that has won a place in Kerala's conscience.

Sometimes, the greatest victory we achieve in life is not the one written in our own name, but becoming a beacon of hope in someone else's life. Atul's spike shoes deliver this profound message.
